Swindon Self Storage

Lok’nStore has been operating a self-storage facility in Swindon since 2001. As part of an initial first period of expansion during the early 2000s, Lok’nStore Group was searching across the UK for potential sites to develop and Swindon was high on the list. Our store in Kembrey Park was opened along with another five across England that year.

Swindon has long been associated with transport manufacturing. Trains and cars have been built heavily during its history and currently (2020) it still has the massive BMW Mini plant producing over 350 parts which are then transported by train to the building site in Oxford. Swindon’s biggest claim to fame is the fictitious paper merchants Wernham Hogg in the English TV series The Office. David Brent repeatedly mentions ‘the Swindon lot’ before the branch is eventually closed down and moved to Slough. The rock band Toploader also played live at a festival in Swindon once.

Our Lok’nStore facility at Kembrey Street, provides secure, private self-storage to homeowners, renters and various business users from all over Swindon, Wiltshire. We have customers from across the SN postcode including; Abbey Meads, Covingham, Dorcan, Freshbourne, Greenbridge, Greenmeadow, Haydon Wick, Kingsdown, Nythe, Okus, South Marston, Stratton St. Margaret, Upper and Lower Stratton, St. Andrews Ridge and Taw Hill. Most of our customers come from the local Swindon area, but we have many from various locations in the UK and even from across the world. Even though most people who use our self-storage centre in Swindon tend to remain local, many are storing belongings while they move abroad temporarily either while travelling or working overseas. Storing their stuff in a secure facility is a great way to know that everything will still be there when they return to Swindon from their distant travels.

Why do people use Lok’nStore Swindon?

Customers come to us for a vast variety of reasons. Life-changing moments are one of the biggest reasons. Some of these are good moments, others sad.

  • Property sale: Supposedly one of the most stressful events in life. Temporary storage while moving between homes. It could be that your new home isn't ready yet you have sold your current property. Storage for a few weeks during this period is an excellent option.
  • Renters in between properties: Renters in need of storage while waiting for their next property to be ready. Put all your stuff into storage and go to stay with that auntie and uncle who you always liked.
  • Sellers decluttering: Decluttering your home before selling is a great way to make it look slightly roomier. That glossy magazine look might be possible if you declutter and put the items in self-storage. You're not getting rid of them — you're just making your home look a little more 'spacious' before it goes onto the market.
  • General decluttering: Do you really need that crystal cat playing the piano that your Nan left you or the cuddly toys that you've had since childhood? If you find these precious items cramping your style on date-night, how about putting them into a small storage unit.
  • Building or decorating work: That loft extension seemed like a brilliant idea after you had finished watching George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces and drinking a bottle of red wine. Now, a few months later your builders from Swindon are turning up in a fortnight and your loft space resembles a hoarder’s paradise. A great way of clearing a loft or attic is to put the items into a self storage unit. This will also give you a chance to analyse what belongings you have. You may find that many of them can be sold, given to family or dropped off at the local charity shop.
  • Storing parent's furniture: Unfortunately for several reasons, we can end up owning the furniture of our parents. These items can be incredibly challenging to let go of, and so many folks choose to put the furniture into self-storage until a later date.

There are many reasons that a Swindon household might need the services of a self-storage company, but what about local businesses? • A: Self-storage is ideal for a company with varying levels of stock depending on the time of the year or season. You can even increase or decrease the size of storage unit with your level of stock – why pay for space you don’t need.
  • Q: Sometimes, my business won't require storage space at all – is that ok?
  • A: Yes, it is. One of the most significant benefits of using Lok'nStore rather than renting a warehouse in Swindon is flexibility. No long-term contracts, so you can use our storage space for just one week if that's all that you require – it's your business, your space.
  • Q: Foolishly I invested in a truckload of ‘Swindon Town FC in the Premier League’ woolly hats and scarfs. Can I store them until needed?
  • A: You certainly can! You can store anything you like, for as long as you want or need. In some cases, even forever.
  • Q: How much does self storage cost at Lok’nStore Swindon?
  • A: The cost of a self storage unit at any of our sites is based primarily on the size the storage unit needed, and secondly the length of the stay.
