About our storage centres
  • Our first store to open was in Horsham at Blatchford Road in March 1995, with a second store following very soon in the May of that year in Staines, Middlesex. In 1996 Lok'nStore head office was situated at a storage centre in the centre of Kingston-Upon-Thames, and the following year three new stores opened in Basingstoke, Reading, and Woking.
  • In 1999 – 2000 Lok'nStore domination of the south coast started with the opening of storage facilities in Fareham, Portsmouth, and Southampton.
  • Poole, Dorset facility opens - in 2000.
  • 2001 ended as Lok'nStore busiest property year (to date?) with new centres opening in: Ashford, Milton Keynes, Northampton, Sunbury, and Swindon.
  • Lok'nStore opened a store in Eastbourne in the October of 2003.
  • 2005 / 2006 saw our first purpose-built storage centre on Hawley Lane in Farnborough, which became the Lok'nStore Group head office after the sale of Lok'nStore Kingston. Other purpose-built storage facilities followed shortly in Harlow and Portsmouth at Rudmore Square.
  • In 2008 Lok'nStore opened another storage facility in central Northampton to become the area's biggest storage provider with 2 Northamptonshire stores. What next for Lok'nStore?
  • In late 2012 Lok'nStore opened a store in Crawley and in 2014 another in Maidenhead. The facility in Maidenhead is a joint development with Lidl, the successful chain of grocery stores.
  • In late 2014 we opened a new Reading store and embarked on one of our biggest new store challenges to date: How to move the goods of hundreds of customers from the old site to the new just across the A33. This was successfully completed in just under six weeks!
  • 2015 New purpose-built store opens in Aldershot, Hampshire.
  • 2016 starts with the opening of a converted site in Chichester.
  • At the start of May, we open a 'new build' facility in Bristol.
  • May 2016 sees the opening of our new Southampton store on Third Avenue.
  • In spring 2016, Lok'nStore announces the purchase of two new sites for the building of self-storage facilities - Gillingham in Kent and Wellingborough, Northamptonshire.
  • Then in August 2016 the purchase of another two new sites; Broadstairs in Kent and also Hemel Hempstead.
  • Lok'nStore Broadstairs opened in May 2017.
  • The new-build store in Hemel Hempstead opened in November and was quickly followed by Gillingham in December.
  • March 2018: Purpose-built store opens in Wellingborough at Whitworth Way.
  • December 2018: Purchased the 'The Box Room' in Hedge End, Southampton.
  • December 2018 - Lok'nStore open a purpose-built store in Dover.
  • February 2019 - The opening of Lok'nStore's first self-storage centre in Wales (Cardiff).
  • April 2019 - Purpose-built facility opens in Exeter, Devon.
  • August 2019 - Purpose-built facility opens in Ipswich, Suffolk.
  • February 2020 Purpose-built store opens in Gloucester.
  • June 2020 Woking store closes after 24 years of trading, and another opens in Oldbury, West Midlands.
  • August 2020 Leicester store opens.
  • April 2021, a new store opens in Salford.
  • The first store of 2022 opens in Warrington in January.
  • March 2022 - Wolverhampton opens.
  • April 2022 - Stevenage opens.
  • 2023 Bedford, Peterborough.
  • Kettering, February 2024.
